In July, Adobe released Lightroom for Mobile version 2.4 for iOS. This update brought with it two particularly big new features for photographers with iPhones and iPads: The raw technology preview and local adjustment tools. As long as your raw files are supported on the desktop version of Lightroom, you can sync them with Lightroom for Mobile and edit them on the go.

At the time of release, Adobe published a video with travel photographer and educator Elia Locardi showcasing the app. You can see this video in the link above. Now Locardi has released a much longer video showing his start to finish raw workflow using Lightroom Mobile.

In the video below, Locardi not only covers his use of the app and how it’s changing the way he can work, but he goes through his shooting process as well. So even if you’re not a Lightroom Mobile user, there’s still something for you here. Check it out below.

It’s incredible how much photography and technology in general have advanced in the last few years, particularly in the mobile space. As phones themselves become capable of taking better pictures, they also become more powerful tools for photographers to use to complement and speed up their workflow with dedicated cameras.

If you’d like to learn more about Lightroom Mobile, see here. To use the app – which is itself free – you need to have an active Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. A special Photography Plan is available for just under $10 per month and includes both Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC.

Travel photographer Elia Locardi is a highly-accomplished landscape photographer and he teamed up with Fstoppers to create a 12-hour video tutorial series aimed at landscape photography from start to finish, including video from out in the field and how to post-process your files.

Frugal photographers or those who just want to preview the tutorial series will be pleased that the first episode of Photographing the World: Landscape Photography and Post-processing with Elia Locardi is now available for free. The first episode, seen below, includes nearly an hour of excellent tips and tricks captured in Iceland.

Elia uses a wide variety of gear in the free lesson, including Nikon D810 and Nikon D750 camera bodies and a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens. He goes to a variety of beautiful, scenic locations and intricately discusses how he chooses to compose his images. After capturing the shots, he goes through his post-processing using Lightroom, Photoshop and Nik plug-ins. Companion raw files are available here.

If you liked the snippet of the tutorial series above, you can purchase the entire 12-hour tutorial series for just under $300. The tutorial includes 1080p video of 15 lessons, an overview of the gear Locardi uses, full raw files and companion software catalogs, eight behind the scenes episodes (which are also available here) and access to a private Facebook group. You can see an overview of the tutorial series below. To view more of Elia Locardi’s work, visit his website.

Fstoppers’ Lee Morris and Patrick Hall head to Hong Kong with travel photographer Elia Locardi for another installment in Elia’s Photographing the World: Cityscape, Astrophotography, and Advanced Post-Processing tutorial. In the behind-the-scenes videos below (episodes 13 and 14 in Fstoppers’ Behind The Scenes series), the team provides a humorous take on a variety of topics.

The first photography tip comes when Elia is trying to get a night shot of Hong Kong’s skyline through thick glass. He says, “Sometimes when you go to cities, the best you can get is going to be through thick glass.” You’re going to have to find a way to deal with the reflections and minimize their impact on your image as much as possible.

Later on, we see the guys using a Manfrotto Magic Arm in lieu of a tripod to attach their camera to a railing for skyline images across the harbor. Unfortunately, due to smog, the entire segment had to be scrapped from the final tutorial. The rest of this behind-the-scenes video is essentially the guys having an adventurous night out on the town. Check out the video below, warning, there is some NSFW language.

Episode 14 kicks off with Lee and Patrick eating Chinese foods that they bought for each other. After that, they spend a considerable amount of time searching for a very specific location. They do eventually find it and Elia discusses its appeal. They’re shooting from a small bridge overlooking eight lanes of divided traffic that span multiple levels. By using long exposures, you’re able to utilize the traffic at night as compositional leading lines. For the final image, Elia wants to use bracketed exposures to photograph the scene during the blue hour and then capture 30-second exposures of the cars after dark to create a composite image with as many trails as possible.

All in all, the crew had a pretty tough time in Hong Kong. If you head over to the full article at Fstoppers, you can see some of the shots that Elia captured in Hong Kong and also images he shot last year. For more information on the cityscape photography tutorial, see here and check out the video below. Elia’s first tutorial on landscape photography is available here.

As part of their Photographing the World behind-the-scenes series, Fstoppers’ Lee Morris, Patrick Hall, and others travel with professional travel photographer Elia Locardi to the Cinque Terre, Italy.

In this ninth episode, which kicks off season two of the series, we get to see Lee bring out his drone to capture aerial footage of the beautiful Italian seaside. As part of their fifteen-plus hour Photographing the World: Cityscape, Astrophotography, and Advanced Post-Processing tutorial, Patrick set up a Nikon D750 on a motorized slider to capture a timelapse video of the sunset. We also get to see parts of Elia’s tutorial throughout the behind-the-scenes video. They then travelled up a mountain overlooking the coast where Elia combined exposures to capture the perfectly lit and balanced image. Elia then utilizes a pano gimbal head for filming a segment on how to take and process panoramic images.

Check out the video below to see more behind-the-scenes footage and watch the Fstoppers crew go paragliding over Cinque Terre, including some great first-person aerial footage.
