DJI Black Friday drone deals to expect

Several top drone brands are expected to offer excellent Black Friday deals. DJI is one of the most prominent, known for its high-quality models with advanced cameras and stable flight controls. DJI’s Mavic and Mini series often feature prominently during the Black Friday period.

Last year, we saw the DJI Avata 2, Mini 4 Pro, Air 3, and Mavic 3 all drop in price over Black Friday.

DJI Mini 4 Pro was one of 2024’s biggest sale items

The DJI Mini 4 Pro was considered a hot ticket item last year. Amazon featured the Fly More combo in its Black Friday sale with $450 off. The combo dropped to below $1300 and came with a 128 GB SD, 3.0 USB Card Reader, Landing Pad, Waterproof Backpack, Strobe Lights, and more.

When do drone Black Friday deals start?

Officially, Black Friday begins on November 28, 2025, but many retailers roll out deals long before then. For drones, early deals might start as soon as mid-November, especially from retailers like Amazon, B&H, and Best Buy. With more retailers starting their sales early, Black Friday has become a season-long event, with some of the most competitive deals potentially surfacing the week before Black Friday itself. Keep an eye on the most popular stores for flash sales or one-day deals, as these can sometimes feature high-end drones at record-low prices.

Is Black Friday the best time to buy a drone?

Black Friday is one of the most popular times of the year to buy a drone, thanks to exclusive discounts on high-end and entry-level models alike. Retailers and major brands like DJI, Autel, and Skydio often offer substantial savings on some of their most popular drones, making it easier for new hobbyists and professional photographers to get top-tier gear at a fraction of the usual price. Additionally, bundles with extra batteries, carrying cases, or propeller guards frequently go on sale, making Black Friday the ideal time to build a complete kit.

Entry-level drones, ideal for beginners, are often priced under $200-$300 and offer basic features for learning to fly. Mid-range or “prosumer” drones appeal to enthusiasts with features like 4K video, enhanced stabilization, and intelligent flight modes that capture cinematic shots. Professional-grade drones, designed for advanced users and content creators, may also see reduced prices. These drones are often packed with premium features like obstacle avoidance, high-resolution cameras, and extended flight times.

In a decision that will have major impacts on the drone market in the U.S., a Federal judge has ruled that DJI must stay on the list of “Chinese Military Companies,” a designation that will keep DJI from selling drones domestically.

The FCC has also proposed adding more companies to the list of banned products, though they have not made it clear which companies might be on the list.

The issue, or at least the supposed issue, is that the U.S. government wants to eliminate spying on critical infrastructure. Huawei is another company on the list, with the suspicion being that Huawei phones have a backend that would allow the Chinese government to spy on users.

This is not the only hurdle DJI faces. DJI is subject to a review by the U.S. national security agencies by the end of the year, and if that is not completed, DJI will be automatically added to a list of companies that are prevented from getting certified to operate in the United States. Unfortunately for DJI, that review is not guaranteed. Without action, DJI will almost certainly be prohibited from selling drones in the United States permanently.

A DJI drone against a sunset

It’s also not the only hurdle faced by the drone industry. The Commerce Department, under the guidance of the Trump administration, is pushing to ban all Chinese-made drones and components.

As reported by Reuters: “The Commerce Department in January said it could also target for restrictions drone systems like onboard computers, communications and flight control systems, ground control stations, operating software and data storage.”

The result will be a complete and total ban on not only DJI drones, but also any other Chinese drones, parts, or technology.

The FCC has announced it is working on plans to remove previously authorized device certification, preventing the products currently available in the U.S. from being imported, sold, or even marketed.

The government has provided no proof to indicate that DJI drones are engaged in spying. DJI also argues that they offer a local-data-only mode that disables all internet connectivity on demand, and they have offered independent auditors to review their equipment. Many in the drone community think the move is more about stifling competition than protecting infrastructure.

The argument about Chinese cell phones seems like a good one to me. After all, a phone is a self-contained device with full access to the internet, as well as access to your contacts, calendar, mail, browser history, and is complete with cameras and microphones. A cell phone is also carried around all day, giving it a wide range of spy-friendly targets.

Personally, I am much less convinced that DJI drones are being used to spy on things via the technology they use, though individuals have been caught flying drones near military installations.

The continued grounding of DJI’s drones means that emergency rescue operations will be curtailed, and creators will have to seek alternative drones. Unfortunately, DJI owns the majority of the drone market, leaving consumers with little choice in gear.

No matter your position on these governmental policies, a ban on all imported drones and components will decimate many industries and will have a significant impact on creators in travel, adventure sports, real estate, wildlife, and more.

Normally I’d call for some action, but in this case I’m not sure any can help. The FCC can pass regulations without congressional approval, as can the Commerce Department. With the current administration, there’s little to no chance that DJI will be saved, as it’s the current administration that is pursuing these changes.

Will DJI drones return to the shelves in the U.S.? It’s unlikely, and there is no telling yet how much of an effect this will have on the company. The U.S. is its biggest market, and few companies survive losing the biggest base of customers

The DJI Mini 5 Pro could be just days away. A wave of new leaks and insider reports suggest the compact drone will make its official debut on September 16, with units expected to arrive in stores by September 17.

Release Date and Pricing Rumors

DJI insider Jasper Ellens of DroneXL claims that multiple sources have pointed to an mid September launch. Pricing is said to start at €799 (around $799 USD) for the base package, which excludes the RC2 remote. For those needing the controller, the Fly More Combo is rumored to cost €1,129, while a bundle with ND filters could go for €1,229.

Interestingly, reports also suggest that batteries from the DJI Mini 3 and Mini 4 may be compatible with the upcoming drone, offering a potential cost-saving advantage for existing owners.

Leaked Images and Features

DJI Mini 5 pro leaks.

Leaked marketing materials and even a product teaser from accessory maker Freewell, which announced ND and special effects filters for the drone, add weight to speculation that launch is imminent.

According to reports, the Mini 5 Pro will retain its sub-250 gram weight, keeping it exempt from air regulations in most regions. The major upgrade appears to be a 1-inch image sensor, a significant jump from the Mini 4’s 1/1.3-inch sensor and more in line with the larger DJI Air 3S.

Another rumored addition is a forward-facing LiDAR sensor integrated into its omnidirectional obstacle avoidance system, potentially improving low-light and nighttime safety.

Expected Specs at a Glance

  • Sub-250g lightweight and foldable design
  • 1-inch sensor with up to 4K/120fps video
  • True vertical shooting with 225° gimbal rotation
  • “48mm medium telephoto mode” via in-camera crop
  • Nightscape omnidirectional obstacle sensing with LiDAR
  • ActiveTrack support for running, cycling, and more
  • Up to 36 minutes of flight time

What to Expect

The Mini 5 Pro is rumored to offer a mix of portability and pro-level features, including vertical shooting for social media creators and enhanced safety with LiDAR-assisted obstacle detection. With leaked images, accessory announcements, and retailer-level pricing already circulating, it seems likely that DJI’s announcement is around the corner.

That said, DJI has yet to officially confirm the Mini 5 Pro, so these details remain speculative until launch day.

DJI has had a busy January with the release of the Matrice 4 and Flip drones. However, it seems the company still has one more drone to announce: the Mavic 4 Pro. Images and specs for the forthcoming drone have already started leaking online.

Reliable DJI insider Jasper Ellens has shared images for the DJI Mavic 4 Pro on X. One photo shows the upcoming drone in flight which looks like it was taken during a camera test. From the images, observers have deduced that the Mavic 4 Pro may be closer to the Mini 4 Pro in terms of design.

Ellens has described the most recently leaked footage for the Mavic 4 Pro as a “beta tester video.” The 41-second video clip shows the drone landing and a glimpse of the remote screen. The footage reveals that the Mavic 4 Pro will have a 2.5x and 6x camera. The leaked video shows vertical shooting functionality similar to DJI’s most recent drones.

DJI Mavic 4 Pro rear view leaked image.

What We Know So Far About the DJI Mavic 4 Pro

One of the biggest changes to the DJI Mavic 4 Pro over its predecessor is the larger and circular triple camera module. The Mavic 3 Pro used a 24mm wide camera with a large 20MP four-thirds sensor, a 3x telephoto with a 1/1.3-inch, and 7x with a smaller 1/2-inch sensor. The redesigned camera module looks like it will house better lenses or larger sensors for the three cameras. The most recent leak confirms that the long telephoto of Mavic 4 Pro will be a 6x instead of the 7x of its predecessor.

Another key difference revealed in the Mavic 4 Pro leaks is the updated airframe design which is similar to the Mini 4 Pro. The rear part of the airframe sits lower than the front propeller arms in flight, resulting in a more aggressive-looking stance. The updated design reportedly has a better aerodynamic profile, improving the drone’s battery life and obstacle avoidance system.

The Mavic 4 Pro will also reportedly be sporting a 28mm F/2 wide-angle camera instead of the 24mm F/2.8 on the Mavic 3 Pro. This will be very divisive since a lot of users prefer a wider field of view. However, one benefit of the narrower 28mm is the reduced distortion. The brighter F/2 aperture will also improve footage in low-light situations.

According to the leak specs, the Mavic 4 Pro is capable of 6K video recording. Additionally, the upcoming drone will reportedly have a built-in ND filter instead of the clip-ons in previous models. The leaks also mention that the Mavic 4 Pro will have vertical shooting capabilities similar to the Air 3S.

Finally, the Mavic 4 Pro will reportedly be using a 99.5-watt-hour battery with an estimated 50-minute flight time. The drone will also be paired with a new remote controller using Occusync 4+ and has an estimated range of 40km.

How Much Will the DJI Mavic 4 Pro Cost?

Insiders estimate that the “Classic” version will cost around $2,800, an increase of $800 from the previous model. The Mavic 4 Pro Cine Version is estimated to be somewhere between $4000 and $5000.

The leaks reveal that DJI will likely be announcing the Mavic 4 Pro in March. The upcoming drone will reportedly start shipping in April.

If you thought you knew what drones looked like, DJI is out to prove you wrong with the DJI Flip introduction.

The Flip is an eye-catching “vlogging” drone. Its propeller blades are encased in a rigid cage that prevents them from snagging on anything.

When not in use, the Filp folds into a shape that looks more like what a Dyson personal fan might be rather than a drone. To Star Wars fans, the DJI Flip is a dead-ringer for D-O, the droid pal of BB-8 that was introduced in Episode 7.

As someone who has used dozens of drones, I think the design choice is possibly more about style than portability. While it is unique, I’ve sent countless hours with small video drones in bags (and sometimes in pockets) and have never had a propeller snag on anything.

That’s thanks to the excellent folding abilities of most DJI drones. The blades tuck neatly against the sides of the body, preventing most damage.

For example, DJI’s Mini 4K weighs the same but folds more compactly than the Flip.

The Flip has a claimed weight of just under 250 grams and can shoot 4K video and capture 48-megapixel photos. The strength of DJI drones has always been video quality rather than still capture, but we’re looking forward to testing both stills and videos.

DJI says that the Flip is full of AI and subject recognition technologies similar to their larger drones, though we would be surprised if it didn’t. DJI’s in-device subject and object recognition features have set DJI apart from other drone manufacturers.

Specs

The Flip brings a 1/1.3 sensor, which is impressive for a drone of this size. As mentioned above, the Flip can capture 4K/60p in HDR and 100p in non-HDR 4K, capturing in 10-bit D-Log.

In other words, DJI has put incredibly advanced 4K capture into one of the lightest video drones on the market.

Pricing and purchase

The DJI Flip is available for order now on the DJI website, and on Amazon.

The Flip comes in several bundles.

The DJI Flip with the entry-level controller RC-N3 controller is $440. The RC-N3 lacks the built-in screen of the DJI RC 2 controller.

A Flip configuration with the DJI RC 2 controller costs $640. The DJI website also lists a “Fly More” bundle with extra batteries, but it is currently out of stock.

Pricing for the rumored DJI Flip has potentially been leaked. The compact, foldable drone looks set to debut at CES in January. Recent leaks, including FCC filings, images, and videos, hint at a design reminiscent of the Mini 2 but with the unique ability to fold in half, much like the Hover AIR X1 Pro Max. Insider Jasper Ellens revealed additional details on X, suggesting the Flip will feature folding propeller guards for convenient storage, advanced obstacle avoidance via a LiDAR array, and impressive 4K video capabilities.

Potential DJI Flip pricing

In another tweet from Jasper, he shared some further speculation, reliable tipster @billbil_kun has uncovered potential price points for the DJI Flip through a listing on Dealabs. While there is zero confirmation on this the pricing could be as follows:

  • €439: Drone-only package
  • €639: Drone + RC2 remote controller
  • €779: Drone + Fly More Combo (FMC), likely including extra batteries, a charging hub, and other accessoriesÂ

We expected the Flip to be slightly more affordable but at 439 Euros, it sits at a fairly competitive price point. With the Mavic 4 and Flip seemingly close to a 2025 launch, it appears DJI is keeping its consumer drone pace. The DJI Mini 5 was also potentially spotted, which is another huge product launch that could take place later in the new year.

While there are no official sources, insiders claim we can expect the new Drone as early as January.
