Moment has released Pro Camera II, a fully redesigned version of its popular third-party camera app for iPhone. The new app is built to unlock more of the iPhone’s imaging capabilities through advanced manual controls, pro-video features, and a customizable interface aimed at photographers and filmmakers.

The original Pro Camera app was widely regarded as one of the best alternatives to Apple’s native camera app, even reaching the #1 rated camera app spot for several years. But it had begun to show its age with slower startup times and occasional crashes. Pro Camera II aims to fix that with a faster, more stable foundation and an overhauled user experience.

Rebuilt for Performance and Creative Control

Pro Camera II introduces a streamlined, configurable interface and expands access to manual photography tools. Users can shoot in Shutter Priority, ISO Priority, Manual, or Auto exposure modes, including the ability to define a custom Auto ISO range for more consistent exposures.

White balance controls have also been upgraded. Photographers can adjust temperature and tint, choose presets, or calibrate using a gray card. The app even allows fine-tuning of image processing and HDR intensity for more precise results.

Professional Video Tools on the iPhone

Moment has packed the new version with a robust set of video features normally found in dedicated cinema apps. Pro Camera II supports Apple Log, Open Gate, ProRes, and 10-bit recording. Users can configure resolution, frame rate, codec, color space, bitrate, and chroma subsampling.

Video monitoring tools include Waveform, RGB Histogram, and audio metering—important additions for shooters who need accurate exposure and color control.

LUT support is also built in. LUTs can be imported, applied to photo and video, and toggled between preview mode or baked-in output with adjustable intensity.

Customizable Interface and Workflow

Pro Camera II’s interface can be tailored to the user’s shooting style. A left-hand layout option and customizable quick-access tools make it easier to reach frequently used settings such as flash, stabilization, zebras, grids, and focus peaking. Zen Mode simplifies the interface for distraction-free shooting, removing everything except essential tools.

The updated app integrates seamlessly with Moment’s iPhone lens and case ecosystem. Moment says future updates will add slow shutter and timelapse modes, advanced profile sharing, and expanded support for third-party hardware.

Pricing and Availability

Moment’s Pro Camera II app is available now on the Apple App Store for $9.99.

The Nikon ZR is already one of the most capable hybrid cameras on the market, offering a wide range of recording options including REDCODE RAW 12-bit, ProRes RAW 12-bit, ProRes 422 HQ 4:2:2 10-bit, H.265 4:2:0 8/10-bit, and H.264 4:2:0 8-bit. However, Nikon isn’t stopping there — the company plans to expand the camera’s capabilities even further in a future firmware update.

Apple ProRes 422 LT Support Coming Soon

According to Nikon Rumors, the upcoming firmware update for the ZR will add support for Apple ProRes 422 LT, a professional video codec known for its balance between image quality and file size efficiency.

Compared to the standard ProRes 422, the LT version reduces file sizes by around 30% while maintaining solid editing performance and image fidelity. For example, recording 4K DCI at 24p using ProRes 422 LT consumes approximately 148GB per hour, whereas ProRes 422 HQ requires roughly 318GB for the same duration.

This addition was initially mentioned during the Nikon ZR launch, but the company has yet to specify when the feature will officially arrive.

Why ProRes 422 LT Matters

Adding support for ProRes 422 LT will be especially useful for filmmakers and content creators who prefer efficient post-production workflows. The codec is less processor-intensive than H.265, and Apple devices natively support ProRes, making footage easier to edit and preview without additional software.

This move could also encourage tighter integration between Nikon and Apple ecosystems — particularly for filmmakers who use iPhones as B-cameras, ensuring uniform color profiles and codec compatibility across setups.

Firmware Update Timeline

Nikon has not yet announced a release date for the ProRes 422 LT update, but expectations are high that it could arrive in the next major firmware rollout. If you are planning to get the Nikon ZR, it is already in stock at major retailers, including B&H, and is listed for $2,196.95.

We’ll continue to monitor Nikon’s announcements and provide updates as soon as the new codec becomes available.

There are four new iPhones scheduled to be released sometime in September, with most websites, like MacInsider, suggesting September 9: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new model, the iPhone 17 Air, which replaces the “Plus” models.

However, what many photographers and consumers are wondering is whether President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariffs will increase prices. It’s hard to imagine that Apple can absorb all increases as a result of Trump’s tariffs. However, some in the consumer electronics industry suggest that such price increases might be disguised by including an upgrade that provides a performance boost (for, of course, a higher price). Apple Hub claims that the iPhone 17 Pro will be priced at $1,049, which is just around $50 more than the current generation iPhone 16 Pro.

Design-wise, the iPhone 17 Air is reportedly going to be 5.5mm thick, making it the “thinnest” iPhone ever. It will also be the only new model made from titanium (instead of aluminum, like the other three). Another design change might have the Pro and Air models include a camera bar across the back of the phone.

Are there performance changes? Yes. For starters, all new models are expected to have 120Hz LTPO displays, which have 120 Hz refresh rates, for smoother video and gaming, although this technology may adjust the refresh rate depending on the content that’s being displayed.

As for camera features, the selfie or front camera will get a 24 megapixel TrueDepth camera (which comes with a 2x zoom). Pro models could get a 48MP telephoto lens (with a 3.5x optical zoom). Also, Apple might introduce a new Pro Camera app, as well.

All models are expected to include the latest iOS 26 update built in, which could feature a new user interface and AI features.

Leica has unveiled a new iPhone accessory designed to bring a more tactile, camera-like experience to mobile photography. The Leica Lux Grip is a DSLR-style grip that features a dedicated shutter button, control dial, and customizable function buttons, making the iPhone feel more like a traditional Leica camera.

The Leica Lux Grip is designed for avid iPhone photographers like me who love everything Leica. I enjoy shooting with my iPhone and having a camera grip gives you rangefinder-like ergonomics without actually carrying a rangefinder. A good phone grip makes shooting with it it a game-changer.

Like most Leica products, the Lux Grip comes with a premium price tag, retailing at $329. While it’s certainly a steep cost for an iPhone accessory, it’s a far cry from the recently released 70th-anniversary edition Leica M3, which comes in at an eye-watering $23,000.

What is the Leica Lux Grip?

Designed to work seamlessly with the Leica Lux App, the Lux Grip enhances the iPhone’s ergonomics, giving it a more classic Leica shooting experience. The grip features a two-stage shutter release button, with a half-press engaging autofocus for a more tactile feel compared to tapping a touchscreen.

Additionally, it includes two customizable function buttons and a front command dial, allowing users to adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed, zoom, and exposure compensation. The grip also features a built-in tripod thread mount for added versatility.

The Lux Grip attaches magnetically to the iPhone using MagSafe (iPhone 12 and newer) and connects to the Leica Lux app via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Crafted from aluminum, the grip weighs 130 grams (4.6 ounces), adding noticeable bulk to the device but maintaining a balanced feel. It is designed for both left- and right-handed use, thanks to its rotating design. The built-in 300mAh battery supports up to 1,000 shots per charge and can be fully recharged in just two hours via USB-C.

Leica Lux App Gets a Major Update

The Leica Lux app has been updated with new features in version 1.4. The update introduces the Leica I Model A film simulation, inspired by the iconic 1925 Leica camera, featuring a fixed 50mm f/3.5 lens. Leica describes the new look as offering “rich grain and subtle contrast,” delivering a nostalgic vibe to the modern iPhone.

The update also adds four new customizable Leica frames, which display metadata such as settings and location within the image.

The Leica Lux App is free to download from the Apple App Store, but premium features require a subscription priced at $6.99 per month or $69.99 annually. Buyers of the Leica Lux Grip will receive one year of premium access included with their purchase.

Price and Where to Buy the Leica Lux Grip

Priced at $329 (that is not a typo), the Leica Lux Grip is available for purchase through the Leica online store, select Leica retail locations, and specialty retailers like B&H Photo Video. You can also purchase the optional leather case for $60.

Rumors suggested Apple was set to release IOS 18.2 yesterday but instead, we got the second Release Candidate (RC) version for final testing. This small delay could push the release back as far as next week but many believe it is still coming between now and Thursday. Based on Apple’s usual schedule, it could arrive around 3 PM UK time. Alongside iOS 18.2, Apple is also rolling out iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, and watchOS 11.2.

What to expect from IOS 18.2

Users in English-speaking countries outside of the US (South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom) will experience Apple Intelligence for the first time. This rollout includes all features introduced in the U.S. with iOS 18.1, along with the latest enhancements debuting in iOS 18.2, offering an exciting, comprehensive upgrade for these regions.

Apple Intelligence offers exciting tools like advanced writing assistance, photo manipulation, and AI-driven messaging improvements. New features include Genmojis (custom AI-generated emojis), ChatGPT integration into Siri, and Image Playground, allowing users to create images in various art styles. Additional enhancements like Visual Intelligence for improved camera control on iPhone 16 models and Image Wand, which transforms sketches into illustrations, highlight Apple’s focus on creativity.

To use Apple Intelligence, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or later. Older models and the standard iPhone 15 won’t support these features. iPad users can also access Apple Intelligence features if they own an iPad Pro or iPad Air powered by the M1 chip, or the newly released iPad mini with the A17 Pro processor.

When released, users can manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update and following the prompts. Ensure your device is backed up and connected to Wi-Fi before updating.

Canon has announced its first-ever photo culling app. The application utilizes Canon’s computer-vision artificial intelligence engine, which is also making its public debut. Canon wants the app, aptly named Photo Culling, to help users deal with the huge amounts of images many photographers capture and keep on their smartphones.

According to a recent Keypoint Intelligence report, 1.4 trillion images were captured worldwide in 2020, and 7.4 trillion images were stored. That’s a lot of photos! For some photographers, it can be overwhelming to deal with hundreds or even thousands of images. Canon’s new Photo Culling app delivers ‘expert photo advice’ to help people figure out which images are worth saving. The app uses Canon’s Computer Vision Artificial Intelligence Engine, known as PHIL (abbreviated for Photography Intelligence Learning), to evaluate images based on four criteria: sharpness, noise, emotions and closed eyes. Images are scored and ranked based on these criteria, and the app also helps identify duplicate images.

‘PHIL is Canon U.S.A.’s unique computer vision AI engine. PHIL is used to detect the photo score using AI technology to show the quality of your photos. PHIL has several models to score photos, with five of those models being used in the Photo Culling app; grouping with similar photos, sharpness, noise, emotion and closed eyes. Powered by PHIL, Photo Culling finds your best photos, allows you to get individual photo scores and set your threshold level. With our AI Technology, you can quickly and easily cull through a high volume of photos to find the best.’ Caption credit: Canon

‘In today’s ever-changing and overwhelming world, where thousands of photos are captured and stored in a person’s smartphone, consumers need an expert, reliable and intuitive photo tool to help them decide the best photos based on years of trusted knowledge and technology,’ said Tatsuro ‘Tony’ Kano, executive vice president and general manager of the Imaging Technologies & Communications Group of Canon U.S.A., Inc. ‘Canon U.S.A.’s new Photo Culling App is the answer and we are proud to see how the company’s Computer Vision technology within this app can assist consumers with finding and keeping their best photos of their fondest moments.’

In terms of culling options, the app includes a pair of options: whole culling and similar culling. Whole culling determines the best images based on absolute scores against the four models of sharpness, noise, emotion and closed eyes. The user can set a threshold score, and any images that don’t meet that threshold will be recommended for deletion. Similar culling determines the best score among a similar group of photos. The first- and second-highest scoring images are noted, and the rest are recommended to be deleted. The app can automatically group similar images, and the user won’t need to group them manually.

Beyond culling features, the Photo Culling app includes photo counts and storage on the app’s home screen, creates dynamic event albums based on events and dates and includes dark and light mode settings.

Canon’s Photo Culling app will be available in two subscription options. You can either pay $2.99 per month or $14.99 per year, which is a savings of over $20 compared to subscribing monthly for a year. The app is also available with a three-day trial. For additional information, visit Canon. To download the app, click here. As of now, the app is only available for iOS. The app only works with .JPG images or photos captured with your phone’s native camera, as well, which may be a limitation for some photographers.

Last year, I reviewed RAW Power, a raw photo editor which leverages the power of Apple’s raw image engine. The software is available for macOS and iOS devices and it does a great job of allowing flexible, non-destructive editing of individual images on both platforms. However, users wanted more. Specifically, they wanted a full file browser. Enter, RAW Power 2, which includes a full file browser.

In a recent live demo with the developer, Nik Bhatt, who used to lead Apple’s Aperture team, he showed off the revised software, including demoing its file browser and improved editing features. Regarding the file browser, adding images to your library is a breeze and it works a lot like the Finder in macOS. You can add individual folders, maintaining any subfolder hierarchy, but you can also utilize standard Mac keyboard shortcuts to create new tabs, switch between windows and more. The very useful “Quick Look” functionality of macOS is present in RAW Power 2 as well, as is the new Dark Mode in macOS Mojave.

While not new in version 2.0, RAW Power 2 has a preset system. A neat feature of this preset system is that you can create camera-specific presets. Suppose you shoot with a few different cameras and you want to automatically process images from a certain camera in a specific way, you can set up a preset to automatically apply only to images shot with a specific camera as you add them to your library. Further, with a new full file browser, there is also new batch processing, allowing control over many settings such as size, format, compression, resolution, color profile and custom naming.

Regarding new editing tools, there are five new adjustments in RAW Power 2. While you could convert images to black and white in the original software, you now have access to a dedicated palette for black and white editing. The monochrome mixer has red, green and blue channels and also offers filter simulations such as a red, blue, yellow, green and orange filter, much like you see on Fujifilm cameras with their black and white Film Simulations. There is a new vignette tool and new lens correction tools for perspective corrections and addressing chromatic aberration.

Within RAW Processing, there are two new additions to the “Enhance” adjustments, Deepen and Lighten. These are like shadows and highlights sliders on steroids. Often, when you adjust shadows in other software, you will lose contrast. The idea behind these new adjustments is to maintain richness, color and contrast when addressing the shadows and highlights. In my upcoming RAW Power 2 Review, this is a feature I’m excited to discuss.

Moving specifically to the iOS version of RAW Power 2, the software has full access to your Photos library. You can create and delete albums at will and can also batch process images. There aren’t camera presets on the iOS version like there is on the Mac version, but you have the same editing and processing features available. Thanks to iCloud integration, you can start editing on your Mac or iPhone and then pick up where you left off on your other device. All editing is nondestructive and sharing and exporting is easier than ever on your iOS device.

Regarding pricing, there have been some changes. Originally, RAW Power was free on iOS and then different editing tools were locked behind a paywall. This time around, there’s a small upfront cost and some editing tools are locked, although the paywall is lower this time to unlock every feature and tool. The upfront cost of RAW Power 2 on iOS is $2.99 and there are two Advanced Adjustment packs available for $1.99 each. Pack 1 includes Depth Effect, Curves and White Balance. Pack 2 includes Chromatic Aberration, Vignette, Perspective and Black and White Adjustments. For macOS, RAW Power 2 is a free upgrade for existing owners. For new users, it’s $26.99 through the end of November and $29.99 after that. You can learn more and purchase the software by clicking here. Stay tuned to Imaging Resource for a full review of RAW Power 2 for macOS and iOS.

You may recall the Mac app, RAW Power, which we reviewed earlier this year. The application was developed by Gentlemen Coders, which was founded by Nik Bhatt, a former Senior Director of Engineering at Apple and the former Chief Technical Officer of the Apple Photo Apps group. Bhatt and his team has announced the release of RAW Power for iOS devices.

The new app, which is free and available now, takes all the RAW image editing capabilities of the Mac app and transports it to your iPhone or iPad, so long as your device is running iOS 11. The software leverages Apple’s RAW Engine to decode and process RAW files from compatible devices on your iOS device.

Of the new app, Nik Bhatt says, “We constantly hear from photographers how much they want to edit the RAW images in their iOS or iCloud photo libraries using the kind of advanced tools they are accustomed to using on the desktop. Using our deep experience with Apple’s RAW Engine, we have created a powerful, easy-to-use editing app that seamlessly integrates with the built-in Photo apps on iOS and Mac, allowing iOS users to keep their images in iCloud and maximizing integration with the Apple ecosystem.”

The Photo Library control and iCloud integration is a big aspect of RAW Power for iOS. The application has full access to your Photos through the application’s home screen and allows you to create your own albums and has iCloud connectivity. If you make a change to a photo stored on iCloud on your desktop, the edited image will pop up on your iOS device running RAW Power and vice versa.

It is more than syncing that connects RAW Power on Mac to the new iOS version, but all the editing and RAW processing tools found on the desktop version are also available on the iOS version. RAW Processing includes eight sliders and even full-fledged curves adjustments including individual channels adjustments. While the app and all basic editing is available for free, to utilize curves and white balance adjustments, in addition to the special Depth Effect which allows you to customize the portrait effect on images captured with Apple’s dual-camera iPhones, you must purchase the Advanced Adjustment Pack. This pack costs only $9.99 and it’s a one-time in-app purchase.

I have had the chance to go hands-on with the software ahead of its release and it works as advertised. It is quite impressive to be able to process a RAW file from the Fujifilm GFX 50S on my iPhone. Not only can it be done, but the app works well and most adjustments are quick. You can zoom in to 800% within the app, although this is not quite as quick as making basic slider adjustments.

RAW Power not only offers RAW processing in the palm of your hands, but the software’s organizational features are a strong point too. There’s a new album called “Recents,” which shows you any image you viewed for more than a few seconds or edited. You can view, create, delete and rename albums and sort your images by date, sharing and favorite images. The app includes an Inspector, which lets you check metadata for your images too.

As I mentioned, all the basic editing and organization features are available for free, although if you want full RAW processing, you should definitely consider the in-app purchase.

After a year of development, the Android and iOS app Mendr launched in March. Mendr is a very interesting app that matches photographers with retouchers. A user selects one of their photos within the application, chooses the edits that they want done to the image and then sends it out. Photo editors with the app are then notified of the edit request. Ideally, one of them selects the photo and edits it with their software of choice. When they finish the desired edits, they submit it back to Mendr and the original photographer receives it. Not only does the app hope to reduce the pressure on photographers to always need to edit their own images, but the app is a platform for photo editors to make money.

Inspired by requests from friends and family to edit their own photos, Mendr co-founder (and photographer and editor) came up with the idea for an app that matched photographers and editors. He thought there must be a better way to have someone edit your photos than simply asking people you personally know.

It’s a very cool idea for an application and so far users have been pleased. It currently has high user ratings in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. You can download the app from the links above. To see some of the edits users have done, follow Mendr on Instagram. Have any of you tried the app? If so, let us know in the comments below.

There are many location apps available for photographers on iOS, but one of the best I’ve seen is MapAPic from Sea to Software. The developer recently updated his app and reached out to me with a code to download and try the app for myself. No other compensation was received for the review below.

Basically, MapAPic allows you to instantly save any location using your phone’s GPS functionality and log photos using your phone’s camera and your photo library. Additionally, you can create locations with existing pictures provided that their EXIF data has GPS data. After saving a location, you can make notes about the location and even get sunrise, sunset, golden and blue hour information for any of your saved locations for a selected date.

To help keep your locations organized, you can search your list, view them on a map or utilize a tags system. You can mark your favorite locations accordingly as well. To share information with others, you can email them as PDFs or print locations. Further, your locations can be backed up via Dropbox in the app.

I enjoy the app a lot and it will likely be my go-to app for storing location information. I like that there’s an easy way to keep notes for each location, as I often make notes about places I’ve shot, including considerations for future trips. My only criticism of the app is that I can’t change the map view. I would prefer a satellite map view rather than the standard street view map. For landscape photography, a lot of my locations are not near a street and a satellite view would provide me a better view of my saved locations. Another neat feature would be the ability to share and search through locations. Suppose I am in a new area, it would be great if I could browse stored locations from other users, if they opted to share them publicly.

MapAPic is available in two versions, MapAPic LE and MapAPic. MapAPic LE is free and the full MapAPic version is $4.99. If you’re on the fence, download the free version and try it for yourself.
