Tamron is expanding its all-in-one zoom lineup with the announcement of the 25-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 for Sony E-mount. Designed as a versatile lens for travel and everyday shooting, the new model updates the company’s popular 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD with improved optics, autofocus, and ergonomics.

The 25-200mm G2 enters a competitive space with Sigma’s newly released 20-200mm F/2.8-5.6 DG DN Contemporary. Both lenses are targeting photographers who want flexibility without changing lenses. The new Tamron lens has a larger maximum aperture, while the Sigma zoom offers a wider field of view.

A New Generation of All-in-One Zoom

According to Tamron, the new lens “combines portability with uncompromising performance,” and aims to “support creative expression for everyone from beginners to professionals.”

Built for full-frame cameras, the 25-200mm covers everything from wide-angle landscapes to medium telephoto portraits. The optical design features 18 elements in 14 groups, including special elements to control aberrations, and uses Tamron’s BBAR-G2 coating to minimize ghosting and flare for clear, contrast-rich images. A 9-blade aperture promises smooth, natural-looking bokeh and subject separation.

Autofocus performance has also been upgraded thanks to Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor, which delivers fast, accurate, and nearly silent focusing—ideal for both photo and video applications. The lens also supports subject tracking and offers impressive close-up performance with a 1:1.9 magnification ratio and minimum focusing distance of 0.16m at the wide end.

Built for the Road

Tamron has given the G2 a refreshed design with moisture resistance, a Fluorine-coated front element, and a more ergonomic grip for extended use. The lens supports Direct Manual Focus, AF Assist, and in-camera lens corrections, and is fully compatible with Tamron Lens Utility software for firmware updates and customization.

Even with its fast F2.8 aperture at the 25mm wide end, Tamron has managed to keep the lens impressively compact and lightweight. Measuring 121.5mm (4.8in) long and weighing only 575g (20.3oz), it’s an ideal travel companion for photographers on the go. The lens also accepts standard 67mm filters.

Pricing and Availability

The Tamron 25-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 is available for pre-order now at B&H Photo for $899 and will begin shipping on November 20, 2025.

Interestingly, Tamron will continue to offer the original 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD, which remains in its lineup at $799. Earlier this month, the company also expanded its Nikon Z-mount lineup with the 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2, completing its fast zoom trinity for Nikon mirrorless users.

This lens covers the ultra-wide to wide-angle range, perfectly complementing the 25-200mm’s versatile zoom reach.
